A few new things - more to come tomorrow...

In lieu of the impending major website update, I wanted to share some recent tears and outtakes:

From a recent Washington Post Magazine 6 page story on a rare record collector in Baltimore - Ian Nagoski.

Above: Some recent photos from the Nevada Brothels book.

A new story for Maxim where our fearless yet scrawny writer attempts to train with Dallas Cowboys lineman DeMarcus Ware - in Dallas... in August.

Christina Kim, Professional Golf and Sundance winner 'Catfish'

Some of my favorite outtakes from recently published stories...

Christina Kim, the bad-ass of the Women's PGA Golf Tour for the Wall Street Journal.

The documentary that cleaned up a Sundance this year, Catfish, is a mythical and haunting epic that leaves you questioning your own reality and excited at the possibilities of cinema. I worked with the two directors and star of the film for a crazy hour of four locations and harassment by various midtown security guards...

At left, directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. At right, documentary subject Yaniv Schulman.

"A Witty Title for Some Random Things..."

A really fun shoot with the band Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt for Paper this month - no pigeons (or bears) were harmed in the production of this photograph.

This month's Paper Magazine Fashion Spread - Fashion Editors Luigi Tadini and Zandile Blay sport their favorite looks of the summer. Also a few favorites that didn't make the mag:

Got this a few months ago and forgot to post...

A page from "Flight 93 Remembered,"a publication for the now National Park on the site where Flight 93 went down on September 11th, 2001.

Vote for me. (And some new work...)

Logistics first: I entered 3rd Ward's open call for artists this year, please help me win the people's choice award by taking a second to click here on my page:

Just go to "Rate This Artist" at the top, choose 1-7 stars, and you're done.

Here are a few adoptable dogs from my recent still/video commercial shoot for Dog Habitat - the rescue from the owners of "Unleash Brooklyn" and "District Dog." We had a challenging but fun time moving the subjects through our mini-studio. If you're interested in adopting, or know someone else who might be, forward on this page and contact Carola or Rob here:

Color me...

...impressed. If ever there existed a stereotype of the photographer that prefers to STAY on one side of the camera, it would be me. I just got some copies of this illustration from PDN's magazine: Emerging Photographer. They had interviewed me a while back about what music I like to play on shoots and why - it was a really fun story to participate in. I assumed I'd be one of 20 in a little box on the bottom of the page... What I didn't realize was they were going to illustrate me. I think this is totally awesome, and I am sure you will get a good laugh from it for many reasons. It is such an honor to be included in PDN's pages and I have to say, I've never been "drawn" before. So indulge me in shameless self promo. How did he know I always wear that jacket...?

And thanks to the illustrator who created this- Chris Philpot. Check out his work here: (Click)
Awesome, Chris.

In current news, I'm heading to Texas to shoot NFL Star DeMarcus Ware tomorrow... Stay tuned. And please follow me on Twitter as I attempt to integrate blog, facebook and twitter in some cool interviews, polls and contests!

New Paper Magazine stuff... and video.

The monthly market pages where Paper Fashion Editors Zandile Blay and Luigi Tadini sport their favorite looks of the moment. I'll post some out-takes I like next week.

I shot China Chow this month as well, she has a new show on Bravo starting soon - kind of like 'Top Chef' but for visual artists. Thanks to Paper for a really fun shoot - China couldn't have been more awesome to work with, excellent styling by Luigi Tadini, hair by the infamous Esther Ahn and lovely make-up by Emily Kate Warren. Here's the page:

Here are a few out-takes I like:

Popular Mechanics

The results of my Alaskan sojourn came out in Popular Mechanics recently - I attached a few of my other favorites that didn't make the story...

The sky was a unique steel blue - I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that as soon as we passed 2,000 feet elevation, the temperature dropped to about -20.

Dogsled racer Egil Ellis is famous for creating an insanely fast hybrid dog - part husky, part pointer. He mainly does shorter sprint races that go much faster than the Iditarod. Originally from Sweden, he's been up in Alaska for years. Attempts to brush up on my Swedish went even worse than anticipated...

His house sits apart on a big parcel in the remote town of Willow, Alaska. The dogs actually thrive in the cold and were amazingly energetic. He has over 40 dogs at any given time and when they become too old to race, he has friends and family back in Sweden adopt them...

I Shot Lindsey Van - The Other Lindsey.

Awakened by the media din surrounding Lindsey Vonn, the US Olympic Alpine Skier, I looked back into the photo archive. I remember shooting a ski jumper by the same name at the Olympic Training Facility in upstate New York. I brought up the photos and found it strange that the woman in my pictures (see below) bore no resemblance to the Lindsey on TV... A quick check of the Wiki revealed something both fascinating and appalling: Lindsey Van, a world champion US Ski Jumper, (as opposed to Lindsey Vonn of alpine/downhill olympic fame,) is one of the main plaintiffs in a lawsuit brought against the 2010 Olympic Committee...

Apparently the Olympic Committee hasn't evolved into this century - or the last one for that matter, and would rather see women walking three metaphorical steps behind their male counterparts in one of the most exciting and difficult of all winter sports. Ski Jumping is the only Olympic Sport which doesn't allow women to participate. (Click here to read the Time Mag article.)

The wretched irony? Lindsey has jumped on that very same track in Vancouver that the men will be launching from this week - and she holds the world record for the longest jump from it for both men and women. Ever. The committee's stated reason for the only case of exclusion of women in any olympic sport? "Not enough widespread support for it." Hmm. Please see: "curling," "2 man luge" and "skeleton..." I've seen both curling and ski jumping up close, I would liken the two experiences to: Going to the grocery store with your elderly grandmother versus snorkeling with schools of fish and baby sharks in Turks and Caicos.

I'm no sports fan, but you have to wonder why such a supposedly prestigious institution would intentionally bring this PR nightmare upon themselves, year after year. It's truly inexcusable that half of this event, (one of the few actually exciting ones if you ask me,) is being kept from the public. Ski Jumping is the original extreme sport - and no offense to you snowboarders, but it requires a much larger pair to launch off a 120 meter ramp at 80 mph than it does to ride a halfpipe. If you're looking for a weekend escape from the city, check out the schedule at Lake Placid, it's amazing to witness.

I'd say "It's criminal," but last time I checked, sexual discrimination is actually illegal in most of the civilized world. So I'll just leave it at "It's pathetic."
