Popular Mechanics

The results of my Alaskan sojourn came out in Popular Mechanics recently - I attached a few of my other favorites that didn't make the story...

The sky was a unique steel blue - I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that as soon as we passed 2,000 feet elevation, the temperature dropped to about -20.

Dogsled racer Egil Ellis is famous for creating an insanely fast hybrid dog - part husky, part pointer. He mainly does shorter sprint races that go much faster than the Iditarod. Originally from Sweden, he's been up in Alaska for years. Attempts to brush up on my Swedish went even worse than anticipated...

His house sits apart on a big parcel in the remote town of Willow, Alaska. The dogs actually thrive in the cold and were amazingly energetic. He has over 40 dogs at any given time and when they become too old to race, he has friends and family back in Sweden adopt them...

Awesome shot of the house. That blue is surreal. Great story.
